Hmm, if that's the case, you are in the same boat with me.
Even though I already got my degree in Chemistry, I sometimes feel like I don't have enough basic in Chemistry. I once had difficult time studying atomic structure. For me, it is too confusing!! Hahaha
So, in order to strengthen my basic knowledge in Chemistry for the sake of my future students, I decided to start from the scratch.
The first step that I did was; I bought this awesome book from book depository.
The second step was; I studied this book.
The third step is; I'm sharing my opinion about this book with y'all.
About this book:
1. As a reader, the language of the book is really important. It is vital for me to understand what the authors are trying to convey. I think because the book might be born for the younger readers, therefore the language is understandable especially for me, the non-English speaker.
2. I am a diagrammatic person, in which I understand most through pictures, diagrams, etc. Thus, this book offers so much meaningful pictures that is understandable and useful. Don't forget it is colorful as well. Previous studied had proved that students' understand better through some colorful materials. I do not know until what extend it does affect me but as for now, I'm very pleased with the presentation and content of this book.
3. Regarding the contents, as I said earlier, the book might be suited for the younger readers, therefore the content just cover the basic things in chemistry such as atom, periodic table, simple reactions, and the application in our daily life. But but but, the experience learners might interested of having this book as a light reading..
4. There is also Do-it-yourself sections. It is about the experiments that you (teachers/ educators) can do with your students without using expensive equipment, chemicals, etc etc. And don't worry, the experiments are achievable!
5. The book cost me GBP 6++ (I don't remember the exact price!) but the actual price is GBP 8.99. Thanks to book depository, I save GBP 1++.
